I spent the closing months of 2016 wrapped up in MUNA's stunning debut EP 'Loudspeaker' and I want to make sure that each and every one of you hears how bloody marvellous it is.
Achingly cool and effortlessly sexy, these girls are inspiring me to be bolder, braver and more honest with my own writing. I'd be over the moon if I could produce anything on a level with these tracks.
A shimmering, heart-pounding gem of a track with an irresistible rhythm that will have you itching to step onto a dance floor. Gaaaaaahd its good.
2. So Special
There is a darkness in the sentiment of this track that I love - A recognition that you might not be enough, that you might not be as special as you think you are; "I'm surprised, you don't wanna stay by my side". Very clever writing.
"Oh baby I think we both know, this is the love that we won't get right. Still if you said that you want it, I know I'll always have one more try." Now there's a line that hits me right in the feels.
There are few EP's nowadays where every single track is as good as the last, and this is one of those rare occurrences. Unapologetic and brazenly self-aware, this track rounds off a stunning collection of work.
Right at the end of last year the MUNA girls dropped a spectacular brand new track called 'I Know a Place' - an anthem for anyone who feels outcast, marginalised or sidelined by the confines and narrow-mindedness of modern society. "The song promises to offer a shelter from harm where listeners can be unapologetically themselves, proud of their gender, race, and sexuality." - Pitchfork -
Plus... Anyone who proclaims "I think we should go get drunk on cheap wine" is the kind of person I want to hang out with.
